A 2-year effort to update Redding’s riverfront specific plan begins in earnest Monday with an open house in the Civic Auditorium lobby. City staff and representatives from the consulting group MIG will share details about the planning process and take input.
The open house is from 1 to 7 p.m. with formal presentations scheduled for 2 and 5:30 p.m.
The plan will guide development in the roughly 500 acres of riverfront property stretching from the rodeo grounds to Park Marina Drive.
“The update to the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan will help us establish a clear vision for the future of the space, with consideration for the area’s history and character and a plan for its design and function. The goal is to integrate art and landscape design and to help ensure the area will remain adaptable as our City continues to grow,” said Lily Toy, Redding planning manager, in a press release.
The final plan, expected to be completed by June 2025, will envision a combination of land use policies, transportation and mobility improvements, development standards and requirements, cultural enhancement and preservation projects, and environmental protection policies and projects.
With a 3-2 vote in February, the Redding City Council awarded a $1.23 million contract to the consulting group MIG to update the Riverfront Specific Plan.
“It is critical to have community members of all kinds get involved in this process, as the decisions we reach with this plan will directly impact this community for years to come. If you have thoughts about the future of the Redding Riverfront, we want to hear them,” said Jeremy Pagan, Redding’s director of Development Services, in the press release.
The community will have numerous opportunities to engage with planners and the consultant during the process, the press release noted.
