By combining maps and data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) users are able to “see” that data in new and oftentimes helpful ways. Hundreds of thousands of organizations in almost every field use GIS, yet few people understand or realize how important it is to our society. On November 16, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the downtown HSUC campus in room 8113, Shasta College will hold three information sessions about GIS that are free and open to the public.
Starting at 4:00 p.m., there will be a Beginner’s Mapping Activity. Justin Barrett with Alpine Land Info Services is a local GIS professional who works in forestry and forest management and will give a presentation on Forest Management, Resilience, and GIS at 5:00 p.m. The evening will close out with a session of “Lightening Talks: Wildfire Viewers and Apps for Evacuation and Planning.” Finger foods will be available.
This event is free and open to the public and is hosted by NorthStateGIS with SC, the Cities of Redding and Shasta Lake, Shasta County, and SRTA. For additional information, please contact Dan Scollon, dscollon@shastacollege.edu, (530) 242-2314.
