Shasta College will host this year’s annual Erosion Control BMP Summit on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, and Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.at the Shasta College Erosion Control Training Facility (ECTF) and Farm located on the Shasta College Redding Main Campus. This two-day workshop will de-mystify the Best Management Practices (BMP) selection process and the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), while also educating participants about the importance of drainage, infiltration, and rooting depth, grading for erosion control, and some steep slope. Attendance and material covered will benefit SWPPP developers, reviewers, engineers, construction personnel, site inspectors, landscape contractors, and other water-quality professionals. Attendees will spend time both in the classroom and out in the field. The main learning points taken from these events will be how to select, install, and inspect BMPs.
A trade show will be on-site with erosion control equipment, products, suppliers, and the latest in erosion control BMP practices. Just a walk away is the Shasta College Erosion Control Training Facility (ECTF) where we will spend the second day watching and participating in BMP implementation. The ECTF is world-famous because the 5-acre site mimics an actual construction site and is also the training ground for the heavy equipment operations classes at Shasta College
Registration is $460 per person, with group rates available. Students are able to attend by achieving a scholarship. Registration includes breakfast and lunch on both days. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for continuing education.
Instructor John McCullah (Shasta College instructor and SWAG member) will present and demonstrate the most effective Best Management Practices for construction storm water protection. The event features knowledgeable guest speakers with topics on Hydraulic Mulch Applications, and introductions to new equipment for spreading compost such as berms, socks, and blankets. Also, Pacific Coast Seed will discuss ‘Native Grasses, Shrubs, and Forb-Permanent Erosion Control Solutions
This workshop is a partnership with Shasta College, Sacramento Watershed Action Group (SWAG), and Shasta College Logging Program.
