The League of Women Voters® of the Redding Area (LWVRA) conducted two candidate forums for the November 3rd election.
Shasta County Board of Supervisors, District 4
Candidates Patrick Henry Jones and Steve Morgan joined us for a Candidate Forum moderated by League member Susan Wilson on September 15th. The forum is available for viewing on our website: https://my.lwv.org/california/redding-area/watch-now-shasta-county-board-supervisors-district-4-candidate-forum
Redding City Council
Candidates Adam McElvain, Mark Brent Mezzano, Jack Leroy Munns II, David Robbins, Monique Welin, and Julie Winter joined us in a Candidate Forum for the Redding City Council. The forum was co-sponsored with Viva Downtown Redding and moderated by League member Jeannette Logue and John Truitt, Executive Director of Viva Downtown. The forum is available for viewing on our website: https://my.lwv.org/california/redding-area/watch-now-redding-city-council-candidate-forum
The League of Women Voters® of the Redding (LWVRA) attempted to schedule an additional three candidate forums, but due to candidate participation, we were unsuccessful.
Shasta Lake City Council
The Candidate Forum for Shasta Lake City Council was canceled just as it was scheduled to begin, October 6th, at about 8:30 p.m. Candidate Mark called other candidates to advise them he was ill and would not be attending. Candidate Farr refused to participate in the forum without Candidate Mark. Candidate Powell felt it was inappropriate to continue the candidate forum with only two candidates and withdrew. The League advised the remaining Candidate Watkins that we would not hold the candidate forum with a single candidate. The forum was not rescheduled as there is inadequate time to arrange another date pending Candidate Mark’s recovery.
California State Senate & State Assembly
For the offices of State Senate and State Assembly, the Redding League of Women Voters invited all candidates to participate in forums. State Senate candidate Pamela Dawn Swartz sent an affirmative response, while candidate Brian Dahle did not respond. State Assembly candidate Elizabeth Betancourt sent an affirmative response, while candidate Megan Dahle did not respond. We are, therefore, unable to hold forums for these two offices.
We regret that we are unable to provide a candidate forum for these races and believe that it denies constituents the chance to evaluate candidates as they exchange ideas. We encourage all voters to research each candidate.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization. Through public forums and debates, our work encourages informed and active participation in government. This approach has earned the League a global reputation for integrity, civility and thoroughness. The public can check the Redding LWV website for updates: https://my.lwv.org/california/redding-area.
