On Wednesday, April 29th, 2020, at approximately 9:38 P.M., Officers responded to a stabbing that had just occurred in the area of 135 Lake Boulevard in north Redding. Officers arrived and found 53 year old Robert Lee Southerland suffering from multiple stab wounds to his abdomen. Southerland was transported via ambulance for treatment of his wounds, which were not life threatening.
Investigation revealed Southerland was stabbed by 36 year old Joshua James Oleary, of Clovis, California. Oleary was known to Southerland, and a long running feud boiled over when the two men happened upon each other in the parking lot at 135 Lake Boulevard. A fight erupted, and during the altercation Oleary stabbed Southerland in the abdomen. Oleary then fled the location on foot.
Redding Police Officers checked the Lake Boulevard area for approximately 2 hours before locating Oleary at 100 Lake Boulevard where he was arrested without incident. Oleary was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
