On February 19th, 2020, at 10:03 a.m., an unknown white male adult suspect approached Eugene Wright, who was working as a clerk at Bigfoot Recycling in the 6500 block of Westside Road. The suspect demanded cash from the register and Mr. Wright refused to do so. The suspect then retrieved a can of mace and sprayed Mr. Wright in the facial area. This rendered Mr. Wright temporarily incapacitated and allowed the suspect to take the cash drawer and flee.
Officers from the Redding Police Department and a California Highway Patrol helicopter responded to assist in locating the suspect. The suspect was last seen walking northbound on Westside Road in south Redding and has not been located.
CSO Rachel Johnson conducted a search for video evidence from neighboring businesses. She learned the suspect had gone to Carl’s JR and changed his appearance by hiding his clothes in a garbage can before making his way north. A still photograph of the suspect is included with this press release. Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Redding Police Department at (530)225-4200.
