Join in solidarity against sexual violence by joining Shasta College and One SAFE Place for Take Back the Night on April 3, 2019, as part of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month! Shasta CARES (Campus Advocacy, Resources and Education for Safety) will host Take Back the Night on the main campus at 7:30 p.m. Take Back the Night is a candlelight vigil and march against sexual violence. Together, we recognize and raise awareness about violence, while honoring survivors. During the evening, participants interact with campus and community partners addressing the various aspects of violence, learning about how to break the silence and erode the current cultural and social norms that contribute to sexual violence. Starbucks will be sponsoring a booth with free coffee and snacks. Raffle prizes for booth participation have been donated by Turtle Bay, Ksarah Nance, and the United States Army Recruiting Center. The evening will conclude with a Speak-Out where survivors can share their stories in a way that they find empowering be it storytelling, spoken word, or another platform.
Take Back the Night is a community event sponsored by Shasta CARES, a collaboration among Shasta College, One SAFE Place, Redding Police Department, Empower Tehama, Rape Crisis Intervention and Prevention, Tehama County Sheriff, Red Bluff Police Department, Human Response Network, and Trinity County Sheriff.
