88.9 FM KFPR Redding Off Air Due To Carr Fire

Dear friends,

The Carr Fire has devastated the greater Redding and Whiskeytown areas, and our hearts go out to all those who are suffering losses.

North State Public Radio has lost its KFPR-Redding Transmitter site. Early last week, PG&E cut power to the site to ensure their power lines would not spark new fires, but NSPR’s back-up generator kicked in and continued to broadcast. On Friday afternoon, July 27, we confirmed that the fire overtook the transmitter site on Shasta Bally Mountain.

Video from the tower camera documents the exact time, and, yesterday, we received photos taken at the site. Here are the final minutes from the security camera:

NSPR is committed to rebuilding as quickly as possible. For the immediate time being, we continue to stream live at http://www.mynspr.org and broadcast from 91.7 FM KCHO Chico.

For the most up to date fire information, please follow CAL Fire athttps://twitter.com/CAL_FIRE, and we encourage you to sign up for your county emergency alerts.

Sincerely,

Stephen Cummins
NSPR Interim General Manager
