Suspect Sought After Vehicle Pursuit

On Sunday, July 08, 2018 at approximately 1337 hours a deputy with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office City of Shasta Lake Patrol Division attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse for a vehicle code violation. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed westbound on Shasta Dam Boulevard from Median Avenue.

A pursuit of the vehicle was initiated and the driver continued to flee from the pursuing deputy driving recklessly and violating numerous vehicle code violations. Due to the driver’s blatant disregard for public safety and the fact the vehicle pursuit path was approaching the Shasta Dam Visitors Center, the pursuit was discontinued.

The driver of the suspect vehicle continued into the Shasta Dam Visitor’s Center area where a waiting deputy successfully deployed a tack strip, flattening all four tires of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle continued to the Centimudi Boat Ramp where he fled from the vehicle on foot.

An extensive search of the area was conducted utilizing numerous Sheriff’s Office personnel and a California Highway Patrol helicopter. However, the suspect was not located. Based on a driver’s license located in the vehicle and positive identification made by witness on scene, the driver was identified as 42 year old Clifford Lee Bowers. A prior booking photo of Bowers and his vehicle is depicted. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Bowers is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 530-245-6540.
