Kool April Nites is again coming to downtown Redding this year, but the popular show ‘n’ shine event has a new day and a new venue.
With crews preparing to demolish the old Dicker’s department store, the Market Street Promenade is off-limits this year so the show ‘n’ shine has been moved to the Market Street demonstration block in front of the Cascade Theatre.
And to avoid conflicts with a scheduled daytime performance of “Oliver!” for students, the kool cars will be on display from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday instead of the traditional Thursday.
Crown Motors is hosting its traditional Redding Chamber of Commerce mixer at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (tickets are $20) and the popular cruise is ready to roll at 6:30 p.m. Friday. More than 1,000 cars registered for the show will parade around the loop formed by Hilltop Drive, Dana Drive, Churn Creek Road and East Cypress Avenue.
The big show is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Redding Civic Auditorium grounds, where close to 1,800 hot rods, cruisers and classics will be on display. Tickets are $8 in advance at all Napa Auto Parts stores and $10 at the gate. Admission is free for seniors 70 and older and children under 12.
A portion of Saturday’s gate receipts will be donated to charities and nonprofit organizations that support north state children. To date, Kool April Nites has awarded close to $1 million in grants.
