On Friday, 10/20/2017, at 0933 hours, SHASCOM dispatch center, received a report of a male subject brandishing a handgun. Mike McGarvey reported he contacted an unknown male subject, trespassing on his property, located on Fern Road in the Whitmore area. McGarvey advised after he confronted the unknown male subject, the unidentified man left the area in a gray colored Dodge pickup. McGarvey said while the unknown person was driving away, he brandished a silver colored handgun out the window of the pickup.
Shortly after the call was received, a California Highway Patrol helicopter, located a gray Dodge pickup, which matched the description provided by McGarvey. The suspect vehicle was observed traveling westbound on Whitmore Road. The helicopter pilot monitored the vehicle while waiting for ground units to arrive in the area; however, when the suspect vehicle reached the area of Whitmore Road and Brookdale Road, the vehicle pulled into the driveway of a residence and a male driver and a female passenger where observed exiting the vehicle. The male driver fled on foot and the female passenger remained near the vehicle.
Upon seeing the helicopter and a law enforcement presence in the area, staff at nearby Millville Elementary School, implemented precautionary measures and placed the school on a “Soft Lockdown.”
An extensive search of the area was conducted by officers with the California Highway Patrol, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Redding Police Department; however, neither the male subject nor the firearm were located.
The female passenger was identified as 28 year old Monique Solorio of Redding, California. Solorio claimed she did not know the identity of the male driver and was not in possession of any firearms. Although, Solorio was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe; therefore, she was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
