On Saturday, 08/12/2017, at approximately 2208 hours, Deputy O’Hara conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the City of Shasta Lake, on a green Ford F-150 pick-up for vehicle code violations. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 30 year old Gustavo Montano, from Red Bluff, California. A records check revealed Montano had an active felony arrest warrant and a suspended driver’s license.
While on scene, Deputy O’Hara utilized his K-9 partner “Hondo”, to conduct a “free air sniff” around the vehicle. Hondo displayed a positive alert indicating the presence of narcotic odor in the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, approximately one ½ pound of methamphetamine was located inside. Additionally, Montano was found to be in possession of over $3,000.00 in U.S. currency, which was suspected to be directly connected to illicit narcotic sales.
Montano was arrested and transported to the Shasta County Jail. He was booked on the following charges: Health and Safety Code Section 11378- Possession of Controlled Substance for Sale, Health and Safety Code Section 11379(a)-Possession, Sale or Distribution of specified controlled substances, California Vehicle Code Section 14601.1(a)-Driving on a suspended license and for his felony warrant.
