    It appears that the Savage Arms 22 long rifle was the best example of “long gun” for this article.  Long gun to me, at the very least is an M1 .306 Tanker.

    Looks like a remington 512 to me.

    And “long gun” is a legal category comprising all firearms designed to be shouldered – a category that generally has fewer restrictions.  For instance, you can buy a long gun at age 18 (vs 21 for handgun) and most people residing outside the People’s Democratic Republic of California can purchase long guns in any state (CA residents must go through a CA dealer).

    :::snark alert:::

    Damn.  If only there had been more guns involved.  What a missed opportunity.

    The panacea for all that ails dumb-$#!+, bottom-feeder, drug-addled rural America: Add more gunplay and let God sort them out.

      Yeah, if only we had more gun laws…  It should be illegal to rob someone, especially with a firearm.  It should also illegal for someone to waive a firearm about in a threatening manner.  And there definitely ought to be a law against possessing firearms while using drugs.

    Its nice that someone is reporting local events. Since the Searchlight got bought out, local news is harder to get.

    • Well, and speaking of local … tomorrow your article and your friend’s beautiful photographs will be in the lead.

      It was a fun read, and an interesting piece to copy edit. It reminded me how little I know about the outdoors and backpacking. I confess to having to Google check a few terms.
