This summer Shasta College is producing the widely popular musical The Producers adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan. The musical is based on Brooks’ 1968 classic comedy of the same name and will show July 7-9th, 14-16th and 21-23rd at 7pm, with two matinee performances on July 10th and 17th at 2pm. All performances will be at the Shasta College Theatre.
The story of the play revolves around two theatre producers who scheme to get rich by producing an unsuccessful musical on Broadway. This hilarious show draws on amusing events, characters and situations. It satirizes musical theater and the Golden Age of Broadway. This production features entertaining songs, comedic scenes and exciting dance numbers. The original Broadway production is among the most successful musicals of all time. It won a record number of Tony awards (12) and ran for 2,502 performances. This production is rated pg-13 and some material may not be suitable for children. ASL performances are July 14th and 15th at 7 pm and July 10th at 2pm. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $7 for students and seniors.
Shasta College’s production features local actors and Shasta College students including Bob Koroluck, Blake Fisher, Brian Bisetti, Keith Rose and Erin Sullivan. The production is directed by Dr. Gregory Thorson with musical direction by Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury, choreography by Diana Christensen, David Fraser as the set designer, costumes by Hilary Fahey, and hair and makeup by Matthew McDonald.
