Recognizing that human trafficking is the fastest growing industry in the country, Dignity Health North State is encouraging and supporting the community to take action. On Wednesday, May 25th, the film NEFARIOUS: Merchant of Souls will be screened at the Cascade Theatre. Immediately following the film there will be a Q&A panel including Redding’s Chief of Police, Nefarious film producer, a human trafficking survivor, the Northern California Anti-Trafficking Coalition and medical professionals to discuss the local implications of this issue.

“We are anxious to pull together our community to discuss this growing epidemic. Human trafficking is affecting over 20 million lives today worldwide,” said Kim Shaw, Chief Nurse Executive and Vice President of Patient Care Services at Mercy Medical Center Redding. “The purpose of this event is to share the film and cultivate a community discussion around an issue that is in our own backyard.”

NEFARIOUS: Merchant of Souls takes a close look at modern-day human trafficking, documenting how trafficking has infiltrated our society and our communities. “Human trafficking is an illness, and we are proud to be a part of combating it here in our North State communities,” said Shaw.

Tickets are $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP. The VIP tickets include pre-film networking, wine and appetizers at Market Street Steak House. The event is sponsored and cohosted by Dignity Health North State, the Northern California Anti-Trafficking Coalition, the McConnell Foundation, Moseley Family Cellars and the Record Searchlight.
