North State Symphony Selects Scott Seaton as New Music Director

Following a more-than-yearlong search, Scott Seaton has been named the new Music Director of the North State Symphony. Scott comes to us from the symphony in Minot, North Dakota.

Scott conducted NSS in February 2015 as part of his audition for the Music Director post, in a program that included Dvorak’s Symphony #7 and the Bruch Violin Concerto, with soloist Lindsay Deutsch.

In Scott’s own words:

“I’m thrilled to be joining the North State Symphony and to be leading this outstanding organization into a grand new chapter. From our first rehearsal in February, I felt a fantastic chemistry with the musicians that only became more intense as we performed the concert set in Chico and Redding.  Their passion and desire for excellence is inspiring.  This is a true regional orchestra in every sense and I’m very excited to begin working with the orchestra and staff and look forward to joining this wonderful community.”

Scott and NSS staff will now be concentrating on planning an exciting season. Details of programming and soloists will be available later this summer. As we previously announced, pianist Alpin Hong will be featured in the season-opener in September, playing Tchaikovsky’sFirst Piano Concerto.

Season tickets are now on sale at the University Box Office (530-898-6333) and at the Cascade Theatre (530-243-8877), and tickets for individual concerts go on sale in August. As always, best seats are claimed by season ticket buyers, and remaining seats and tickets for single concerts will go on sale in early August.
