The Redding Police Department S.W.A.T. team, Hostage Negotiations Team, and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad began a training exercise at approximately 0700 hours this morning at Shasta High School. The exercise simulates a response to a large scale shooting by multiple suspects armed with firearms and explosives in a large public area. The scenario incorporated various elements requiring the above special units to work together under a unified command post. Numerous role players were used in the scenario including administrators from Shasta High School.
Press officials wishing a brief on camera interview or footage of the area are encouraged to contact the command post located in front of the Shasta High School gymnasium at 11:30. Please show your press credentials when you arrive at the perimeter of the training area and you will be directed to the command post.
The Redding Police Department would like to thank the Shasta High School Staff and California Highway Patrol for donating their facilities and equipment for this training mission. There were no students present as they are out for summer break.
