Names Released in Shooting

The Redding Police Department, in conjunction with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, is releasing the names of the two deputies involved in the fatal shooting on August 28, 2014, in the 20000 block of Fig Tree Lane. The involved deputies were Sergeant Rob Sandbloom and Deputy Gerry Maul.

Sergeant Rob Sandbloom has worked for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office since 1999. He has experience working in the jail, Boating Safety, Major Crimes, and patrol. He has been a training officer and assists in K-9 training. He is currently on the Dive team, the All-Terrain Motorcycle Unit, and is an overhead team member for Search and Rescue. Sergeant Sandbloom also served 4 years in the United States Marines prior to his law enforcement career. He was promoted to Sergeant in February 2014. His current assignment is in Patrol Operations.

Deputy Gerry Maul has worked for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office since 2000. He has prior experience working in the jail, Boating Safety, and patrol. He worked as a resident deputy in Shingletown from 2004 to 2006. He has been a K-9 officer since 2010 and he is an overhead team member for Search and Rescue. His current assignment is in Patrol Operations.
