On September 1, 2014 at 7:41 am, Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the Chevron Gas Station at 1650 Hilltop Drive on a report of a robbery that had just occurred. When officers arrived at the gas station they learned the suspect had fled the scene and was inside of a motel room at the Motel 6 located at 1640 Hilltop Drive and was holding a female victim against her will.
Officers responded to the Motel 6 and made contact at the room. The suspect eventually exited the motel room after a short stand off and was detained. The victim who was being held against her will was also located and was identified as Melissa Lonewolf, 39 years of Yreka.
The investigation revealed Daniel Murillo, 31 years of Medford, Oregon was visiting Lonewolf at the Motel 6. While at the Motel 6, Murillo decided to go to the Chevron Gas Station and rob it. Murillo disguised himself and armed himself with a knife prior to entering the gas station. Once inside the gas station Murillo demanded money from the gas station clerk who was later identified as Anthony Harris, 21 years of Shasta Lake City.
The clerk opened the cash register and began to remove money from the till. Once the cash register was open Murillo jumped up onto the counter and began grabbing money from the till. The clerk was able to arm himself with a can of pepper spray and began spraying Murillo. Murillo dropped the money and fled the store without any cash. Murillo fled back to the Motel 6 and entered a room that was occupied by Lonewolf. Once inside the room Murillo would not let Lonewolf exit when police officers arrived.
Murillo was arrested and transported to the Redding Police Department where he was interviewed. Murillo was booked at the Shasta County Jail for robbery, false imprisonment, burglary and criminal threats.
