Turtle Bay Teen Volunteers Host Animal Show to Extend Season One More Week

In September, teen volunteers from Turtle bay will host the Walk on the Wild Side Animal Show, just like the Turtle Bay professionals, extending the regular animal show season one more week. September 6th, 2014 at 11:00am and 12:00pm, Turtle Bay teen volunteers will put their newly learned skills to the test in two 20-minute shows educating audience members about the animals of Turtle Bay. Eight teens have spent all summer learning sections of the show to put on an experience just like the professionals.

“The teens themselves asked for this educational experience,” says Curator of Animal Programs, Sharon Clay. Turtle bay has not done this for many years but when they have in the past, the teens involved have gone on to work at Turtle Bay or in animal care jobs elsewhere.

The Turtle Bay Teen Volunteer program offers young people from our local community the opportunity to explore and work at various sites and disciplines within Turtle Bay Exploration Park.  These areas include the Turtle Bay Museum, Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp, and Turtle Bay’s McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Garden.  The various disciplines include Art, Science, History, Forestry, Horticulture, and Animal Care. Teen Volunteers also have the opportunity to work with special events, programs, and projects we offer to our community and members.
