On February 21, 2014 at 9:50 p.m. officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the Howard Johnson Inn at 2731 Bechelli Ln. on a report of an explosion. When officers arrived they located a white male adult who had severe burns all over his body.
This subject was identified as Daniel James Ogram, 28 years of Redding. Ogram was standing in front of a motel room that still had items burning inside. Officers made entry into the room to make sure there were no other subjects inside the room. There were no other subjects located in the room.
The Redding Fire Department responded and put out the fire and assisted in making the room safe. The investigation revealed Ogram was inside of his motel room operating a marijuana honey oil extraction lab. During this process the lab blew up on Ogram, causing major damage to the motel room and severally burning Ogram.
Ogram was transported to Mercy Medical Center for his injuries. Ogram was eventually flown out of county to a burn center to be treated for his injuries. He is considered to be in critical condition. During the investigation officers learned there were three young juveniles and two other females adults present during the explosion but they had fled prior to officer arrival.
