Update: Suspicious Suitcase Near Redding Library Deemed Harmless

UPDATE: On November 25, 2013 at around 10:34 AM, Redding Police officers responded to the Redding Library, at 1100 Parkview Avenue, regarding a suspicious object along the side of the building. Upon arrival, officers found a hard-shell suitcase near the building in an area mostly concealed by landscaping.

The Redding Library and the area around South City Park were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The Shasta County Bomb Squad responded to the scene and determined that the suitcase did not contain any hazardous materials. The area was re-opened around 2:30 PM.

At 10:30 am this morning, a suspicious black hard-side suitcase was found near the rear entrance to the Redding Library.

In the interest of public safety, police evacuated the Redding Library, the Redding Recreation Office and South City Park.

The Redding Police Department is presently on the scene. As this is an ongoing situation, these facilities ·will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

The City of Redding regrets the inconvenience to Library patrons, Redding Recreation customers and South City Park visitors.

It is expected that these facilities will be open tomorrow during usual business hours.
