Scott Valley Bank offers community enrichment with its free Summer Concerts in the Parks Series

In 1996, a free to the public, family friendly, culturally enriching local project first took shape at Scott Valley Bank.  That summer, with the support of the City of Yreka and of many local merchants who participated as sponsors, the Scott Valley Bank Summer Concert Series began its series of concerts with Friday evening events held in Yreka’s Miner Street Park.

As the years have progressed, concerts have also been held in other Siskiyou County venues from Fort Jones to Mt. Shasta – always with Yreka’s Miner Street Park serving as the anchor location.

With planning well underway for the 18th season, Scott Valley Bank’s Summer Concerts in the Parks Series promises to deliver live band concerts from mid-June until early August in Yreka’s Miner Street Park and Hoy Park in south Siskiyou County.

“One of the best things about the Scott Valley Bank Summer Concert Series is that it provides a venue for friends and families to gather for relaxation, great music and community fellowship.  The series is a way for the bank to show its support and appreciation to our local communities.  Local businesses have historically shown strong support for the series by contributing sponsorship monies and services.  Concert co-sponsors have recognized the value of the series and have stepped forward to generously participate,” stated Scott Valley Bank Marketing Director, Val Jereb.

Concert sponsorships pay for a portion of the costs for each event.  Series sponsorships include hotel accommodations for some bands provided by Miners Inn Best Western and HiLo Motel; advertising provided courtesy of Siskiyou Daily News, After Five magazine and Buffalo Broadcasting; a sound system sponsorship provided by Fairchild Medical Center; a ‘Green’ sponsorship provided by Yreka Transfer; event support from the City of Yreka; and business sponsors for each individual concert.  The bank continues to act as the event organizer and major underwriter of the series.  Also, for the fourth year, the event has been a sponsored project of the Siskiyou Arts Council which assists with certain event support.

The Siskiyou Arts Bus, an educational project for kids, will provide a table of arts and crafts activities for free at the July 26th concert.

All the Friday concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Five Friday evening concerts are planned for Yreka’s Miner Street Park beginning Friday, June 21st.  The first concert of the season, scheduled for June 14th, will be held at Hoy Park, Lake Shastina and will feature the blues sounds of Karen Lovely.

The Friday, June 21st Yreka concert will feature Craig Chaquico of Jefferson Starship fame!  The series will continue with big band swing, Sinatra stylings, taiko drums, and local favorites.

For more information on the series schedule, along with a full listing of sponsors, visit the Scott Valley Bank website under “News”.  Schedule cards and posters are available in through the local business sponsors, Scott Valley Bank offices, and the Yreka Chamber of Commerce office.
