Downtown Redding Car Crash Leaves One Dead; RPD Seeks Information

On 03/07/13 at approximately 4:49 p.m., an on-duty Redding Police Officer witnessed a two-vehicle collision on Placer Street at the intersection of Oregon Street. He reported a blue 1996 Geo Metro, driven by a white male adult, crossed Placer Street on north bound on Oregon Street directly in front of a White 1997 Saturn, driven by 59 year old Lynn Kester of Redding.

The Saturn collided into the driver side door area of the Geo, causing it to spin and come to rest on the sidewalk at the north east side of the intersection.

The white male adult was transported to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His name will be released at a later date by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office following next of kin notification.

Kester was also was transported to Mercy Medical Center where she was treated for a broken right arm and side pain.

Further investigation will be conducted to determine if alcohol and/or drugs are involved.
