Mark your calendars. The Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with AV Productions will present an exceptional musical lineup this summer for The Sixth Annual Mossbrae Music Festival on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 4 pm. Nestled by the Sacramento River, the event will be held at the City Park within the shady Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens.
Headlining this year’s event is Lydia Pense & Cold Blood. Cold Blood is one of the original horn bands that forged its own brand of funk/soul, R&B, and jazz known as “East Bay Grease” alongside Tower of Power. Lydia Pense has been compared to Janis Joplin, but is a true original and a pioneer in the women’s rock movement. Lydia and the band debuted when the Fillmore in San Francisco, California, was at its peak as one of the nation’s musical meccas. Owner Bill Graham was so impressed with Lydia’s voice and the sound of the band that he immediately signed Cold Blood to his new record label. That music still holds up today, proving that great music is timeless and will continue to inspire generations to come.
Combining blues, rock, soul and funk, Earl Thomas and The Blues Ambassadors will also take the stage with their soulful rhythms, elemental poetry, and dynamic performance. This San Francisco-based band revitalizes the distinctively American origins of the blues tradition by absorbing global musical styles with a universal spirit. An internationally respected artist, Thomas is also an award winning songwriter, scoring hits for Etta James, Solomon Burke, Janiva Magness, and most recently, Tom Jones.
Sound Advice, will open up the festival with high energy, funk grooves, R&B tunes, blues, rock, and original material. Upbeat and positive, this stellar 5-piece band is a unifying force that brings people together from all walks of life and has kept the North State dancing for more than 15 years.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. Sound Advice will perform at 4 p.m., Earl Thomas and the Blues Ambassadors will perform at 5 p.m., Lydia Pense and Cold Blood will perform at 6:30 p.m.
