Mom Got a Green Thumb? Well, Get Outta Town

The latest tip from the Red Bluff Garden Club’s website: Fill a container with dry sand, pour a quart of vegetable oil evenly over the top, then push your hand tools in. The sand acts as an abrasive to clean the tools and the oil keeps water from damaging the metal.

You just might learn some other useful tips and tricks this weekend if you head down to Tehama County. Get outta town for the Red Bluff Garden Club’s 50th annual Standard Flower Show. The event includes floral design and plant propogation demonstrations plus a plant sale. You’ll find irises and begonias, dianthus, gerberas, pansies, vines, cut herbs, arboreal branches, vegetables, container-grown plants, combination plantings, and roses.

Since 1955, the Red Bluff Garden Club has planted trees and flowers in public gardens and civic planter boxes throughout Tehama County. Members are also mentors, teaching youth gardeners about conservation, floral design and the art of growing.
