The Shasta Family Justice Center (SFJC) is seeking volunteers to help victims of Family Violence. Volunteers are needed to help with child care, client services, the reception area and to organize our donation areas (clothing, toys and food). The next training is scheduled for Friday, January 28, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the SFJC. Registration is required. Individuals interested in volunteering can contact the center at 243-8868 or by e-mail at ShastaFJC@gmail.com.
The SFJC volunteers provide a tremendous support to victims, survivors, their families and staff at the center. Volunteers have donated over 1,500 hours since the center opened on September 1, 2010. The center’s staff and existing volunteers are committed to providing the training and support necessary to ensure the volunteer experience is a valuable one. Volunteers agree to a one-and-a-half hour training, a background check, and a commitment of four hours per month minimum.
The SFJC provides Shasta County victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse, with coordinated services in one location. Housing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals under one roof reduces the amount of time victims spend to get the help they need.
“Since our grand opening, the SFJC has been a tremendous resource to the citizens of Shasta County,” said SFJC Executive Director Michael Burke. “The center has already welcomed more than 500 visits and our volunteers have been a big part of our success.” Burke said.
