Rain and cooler weather are a welcome sight to many North State residents, but for seniors on a fixed income they are a sign of higher energy bills and tough decisions like whether to pay for medications or pay the electric bill. Fortunately, you can help Shasta County seniors and enjoy a delicious, all-you-can-eat gourmet dinner at the same time.

The Celebrity Soup Kitchen, sponsored by the Older Adult Policy Council, is the annual fundraiser to support Power to Seniors. Power to Seniors helps low-income seniors pay their energy bills. Since the program began in 2001, Power to Seniors has raised more than $260,000 and has helped more than 730 seniors keep their electricity on.

Along with a variety of gourmet soups, the event will feature service by local dignitaries and celebrities, live entertainment by the Straight Ahead Big Band, raffle baskets, delicious desserts and a no-host bar.

The Celebrity Soup Kitchen will take place this Thursday, October 28, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Hall, 1605 Yuba St. in Redding. Tickets cost $12 and are available at Golden Umbrella, Kuebler’s Furniture and Curves in Anderson. Raffle tickets to win fabulous gift baskets are also available, $1 for one ticket, $5 for 6 tickets or $10 for 20 tickets.

If you’d like to purchase a Soup Kitchen ticket, raffle tickets or donate items for raffle baskets, please contact Susan Wilson, Older Adult Policy Council, at 524-4777 or Anna Champe at 229-8413.
