Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend

v-day-2010

I feel it appropriate to consider those people and places that have had an important place in my heart — folks and towns that have changed me and set into place another piece of the jigsaw puzzle of life.

So consider this a Valentine to everyone at anewscafe.com, to Redding and to its people as well. Just a PDA (Public Display of Affection) to an adopted hometown from a far-flung wanderer.

May you all get flowers galore and the EXACT kind of center you want in that big heart-shaped box of chocolates.

Doug Cushman is a former Redding artist and author who lives and works in Paris. He was born in Springfield,Ohio, and moved to Connecticut with his family at the age of 15. In high school he created comic books lampooning his teachers, selling them to his classmates for a nickel apiece. Since 1978, he has illustrated and/or written more than 100 books for children and collected a number of honors, including a Reuben Award for Book Illustration from the National Cartoonists Society, New York Times Children’s Books Best Sellers, and the New York Public Library’s Best 100 Books of 2000. He enjoys hiking, kayaking and cooking (and eating!). Learn more at his website, doug-cushman.com.

    Merci, Doug!

Though you're thousands of miles away, I feel so grateful for our connection here at anewscafe.com that keeps you – our favorite far-flung Paris friend – and so many others from far-off places, close to our hearts.

Thank you for the sweet cartoon and loving wishes. I extend the same to you, but my guess you'll have a better chocolate selection.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, Doug, and to all my wonderful friends and family at anewscafe.com.
