Take a drive this weekend and take in some of these North State events:

Redding

Fri., Dec. 4. Historic Christmas Tree Lighting. Entertainment from 5 to 7 p.m. Tree Lighting 7 p.m. Sponsored by Viva Downtown Redding and the Downtown Redding Business Association.

Sat., Dec. 5. Lighted Christmas Parade. 6 p.m. Downtown Redding. Sponsored by the Redding Trade Club.

Chico

Sat., Dec. 5. Art First Saturday. 4 to 8 p.m. Many artist studios, galleries and venues featured in Downtown and throughout Chico. Map published every Thursday prior in the Chico News and Review.

Lake Oroville

Sat., Dec. 5. Frontier Christmas. Noon to 4 p.m. Families are invited to bring all the kids to see Santa in an 1850’s gold rush setting hosted by costumed docents, to learn about pioneer arts and crafts, and to make Christmas gifts like wreaths, corn husk dolls or pine nut necklaces, tin art, candle making, teasel combs, and weaving. Storytelling, a cowboy poet, guitar and fiddle music, and a hilarious night before Christmas skit round out the activities. Lake Oroville Recreation Area. For more information, call (530) 538-2219.

Weaverville

Sat, Dec. 5. Art Cruise. 5 to 8 p.m. Artist’s receptions & show openings with food & beverages at Highland Art Center & Gallery, Umpqua Bank, 5 Windows Gallery, Textile Traditions, Trinity County Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Gallery, Angela’s Bead Art and more. 5 Windows Gallery will feature paintings by Emily Bernath. Main Street Gallery will feature paintings by Kimberly Burditt, Maria Cargill, Bobbi Billings and Terri Hazeleur. Highland Art Center will feature Annual Christmas Show.

Lewiston

Sat., Dec. 5 Lewiston Festival of Lights Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lewiston Community Center. Arts & crafts, food, festivities. Music by Mountain Mojo at 2:30pm with other local musicians to be announced, starting at 11am. Sponsored by the Lewiston Moose.

Gazelle

Sat., Dec. 5. A Holiday Tasting Event & Boutique at the Porcupine Gulch Ranch. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented by Fairchild Medical Center-Scott Valley Guild. The Event includes Decadent Tasting of chocolate and truffles, wine, cheese, coffee, tea, beer and other tasty goodies. Live entertainment by the Vagaries, and Model A cars from the Model A Club of Siskiyou County (weather permitting). Antiques from Heritage House will be displayed for sale, along with artistiic hand-crafted and unique boutique and food items. There will be fabulous raffles and exciting door prizes. Event participants include Alpen Wine Cellars, Shasta View Winery, Etna Brewery, Village Grind, My Favorite Things, and Heritage House Antiques. Take Louie Road east and travel 2 1/4 miles to the gorgeous ranch house. Tickets are a $20 donation (proceeds benefit FMC & scholarships) and will be on sale at the door and at Scott Valley Drug, Scott Valley Florist, My Favorite Things, Village Grind, FMC Gift Shop and Yreka Chamber of Commerce. Ferndale

Fri., Dec 4 to Sun., Dec. 6. Ferndale Loves Christmas. Hospitality Night Open House, Christmas Celebration in Song, Lighting of America’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree, Portugese Linguica and Beans Dinner. Visit redwoods.info for a schedule and information.

Crescent City

Sun., Dec. 6. Dancing by the Sea. The Curry-Del Norte Orchestra’s winter concert features folk dance music from around the world. 3:00pm. Elk Valley Rancheria, 2332 Howland Hill Road. Tickets are $10.00 for adults. Admission for students and children is free.

Alturas

Fri., Dec. 4 Park to Park Parade of Lights. Uptown Businesses open till 7:30 p.m. Parade starts at 5:00 p.m. Line up at park at South end of Main. Tree lighting at Main Street Park (North end of Main) at 5:30 p.m. Bonfire and hot chocolate.
