Try the Bus

Saturday is a free-ride day on all Redding Area Bus Authority routes as RABA celebrates the delivery of its new bus.

The 40-foot bus will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Shasta Mall next to RABA’s Canby Road Transit Center. The display also will feature a live radio broadcast, a drawing for youth passes and free guides to the RABA system.

The free rides are available from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on all fixed bus routes.

  • We’re facing another day of near-record heat today (high of 108 predicted), but a southerly breeze should start cooling things down the rest of the week. Highs under 100 expected this weekend. I tend to hunker under the air conditioner on days like today, but I was outdoors yesterday and, despite the heat, was reminded how nice it is to live in a vacation destination.
  • Mark your calendars for Sept. 26-27 and the 45th annual Turtle Bay Art and Craft Fair in Caldwell Park. Organizers have put out a call for artists who wish to show at the fair, and entry forms must be received by Sept. 15. For more information, call 242-3108.
  • Today’s thought: When considering an “extreme” sport or other risky behavior, ask yourself: How would this look in my obituary?
