The good news about today’s MarketFest: The music will be the laid-back funk of Naomi and the Courteous Rudeboys from Santa Cruz.
The bad news: Today’s high temperature is supposed to reach 108 degrees.
Get to Library Park early and grab some shade, maybe a spot near one of those big mist-blowing fans.
MarketFest runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the usual farmers’ market, food and beverage booths, and the best people-watching in town. To learn more about Naomi and the Courteous Rudeboys and to hear a sampling of their music, click here.
- Here’s an event on the east side of town tonight: A reception for artists Nadia Hava-Robbins and Peter Robbins at Sue’s Java Cafe on Churn Creek Road. The reception, which runs from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., includes live music.
- Ruth Russell of Redding has been selected as an all-star for the Independent Women’s Football League. Russell played for the Corvallis Pride during the 2009 season, when the Redding Rage and Corvallis Pride merged for the season. Russell, 38, was one of eight players from the Rage who joined the Corvallis Pride after both teams struggled to fill their rosters. Russell hopes to play in the July 26 All-Star game in Round Rock, Texas, and is looking for sponsors. For more information, call 524-3675.
- The Shasta Regional Community Foundation has added a new fund to its family of more than 100 funds established by individuals, nonprofits and corporations in the region. The Ralphs Prather Ranch Fund, started with a gift from Walter Ralphs and the Ralphs Prather Ranch Foundation, will be used to benefit the communities of Macdoel, Dorris and Butte Valley in Siskiyou County.
