Our pals at Enjoy magazine are taking their weekly “Enjoy Movies in the Park” to Anderson River Park for the month of July, starting this Friday with the original “Willy Wonka,” shown on a 30-foot screen.
Open seating begins at 8 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk at the newly renovated Gaia Hotel Amphitheater.
Admission is free, but the audience is urged to donate to a charity. For the Anderson shows, the charity will be the “Christmas in July” food drive, and donations will be matched by the Anderson Police Officers Association. Also, for every two non-perishable food items that guests bring to the event, they’ll receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize.
Enjoy says more than 650 people showed up for the outdoor movie in Caldwell Park on June 26. Donations collected during June went to the Redding Police Department’s K-9 unit.
Other Anderson shows include “The Karate Kid” on July 17, “Back to the Future” on July 24 and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on July 31.

Application deadline is July 16. To see the job descriptions, click here. The Rotary Club of Redding has fixed up the MLK center’s garden, rebuilding raised beds and planting crops. New carpet for the center’s library has been ordered and will be installed later this month.

- DVD I Watched on the Dreadmill: “Slow Burn,” starring Ray Liotta as an ambitious district attorney whose career goes up in flames when one of his assistants is arrested for murder. Fast-paced, with a good cast, but I saw the big plot twists coming a mile away.
