Redding’s Riverfront Playhouse, which is raising money to convert a former downtown auto shop into a live-performance theatre, is selling tickets to what promises to be one of the big events of the summer.
“Theatre Under the Stars” is a one-night-only event on July 11 at the Turtle Bay Amphitheatre, featuring the play “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney. The play will star local theatre veterans Kim Basial and Wade Riggs. TIckets are $100 per person, but that price includes food catered by C.R. Gibbs American Grille and entertainment by the Redding Improv Players.
Advance tickets are available at Graphic Emporium at 1525 Pine St. in Redding. Or reserve by phone by calling 241-4278.
- What I’m Reading: “Road Dogs” by Elmore Leonard, one of my favorite authors. Leonard brings back three characters from previous novels and mixes them together in a twisty plot. One of four crime novels I picked up during a quick stop at the Redding Library. The others were the latest by authors Barry Eisler, Val McDermid and Randy Wayne White.
- DVD I’m Watching on the Dreadmill: “Taken,” starring Liam Neeson as a retired CIA agent who raises hell when his daughter is kidnapped in Paris. Not fine cinema, perhaps, but tense enough to make me forget that I’m slogging uphill to nowhere.
