Corner Booth: Get Blasted

I hear tickets are still available for what should be one of the best concerts of the summer: Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women at the Cascade Theatre in Redding.

Alvin (formerly of The Blasters, X and other great bands) and his talented band of all-stars will rock the Cascade on June 25. Local favorites The Jim Dyar Band will open. Tickets are only $20 ($25 for loge), which is a heckuva lot cheaper than what most big-name bands are demanding these days.

Hope to see you there.

  • Another music event is this Sunday at Old City Hall: Joey Curtin and Friends play a fusion of jazz, classical and Americana, starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
  • Mark your calendars for Thursday, when the Woodside Grill at the Gaia Hotel in Anderson launches its new dinner menu. Ten percent of all the proceeds will go to the Shasta Women’s Refuge.
  • Apple announced today that it would be releasing a new iPhone for only $99. It’s Apple’s way of saying, “Hey, all you iPhone fans who paid $499? Suck it.”
  • I still can’t get used to the way the local newspaper uses GIANT BYLINES (in lieu of pay raises?), but one on the front page today made me giggle.  A Los Angeles Times reporter named “Mosi Secret.” Love that name!
