It’s Kool April Nites week in Redding, and the town will be overflowing with hot rods and classic cars.
Events officially begin Wednesday and end on Sunday, but “show-and-shine” outings for early birds are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday as well. For the full schedule and other information, click here.
Even people who aren’t crazy for cars get a kick out of Kool April Nites and the devotees it brings to town. Just driving around Redding, you can see scores of classic cars cruising to different events.
The local paper boldly predicted this morning that it won’t rain during Kool April Nites week. This is crazy talk. It always rains during Kool April Nites. We depend on that rain.
The big parade is on Friday evening. Take your umbrella. Just in case.
- So the First Family got their puppy and the girls named him Bo. All I could think when I heard this news was: Bo Obama, banana-bana-Bo-bama, fee-fi-fo-fama, Bo-bama!
- Hurray for the U.S. Navy, which rescued American ship Capt. Richard Phillips from pirates off the east coast of Africa. Snipers picked off the three pirates who were holding Phillips hostage in a lifeboat. Somali pirates immediately threatened revenge, and the United States called for other governments to get involved in the battle against piracy.
- From Spain comes word of the death of romance novelist Corin Tellado, one of the world’s most prolific authors. Tellado published around 4,000 books in a career that spanned more than five decades. She published her first novel when she was 19, and died over the weekend at the age of 81. To read more, click here.
