Corner Booth: Selling Myself

Big fun last night at “Jeans, Jewels & Jazz: The 2nd Inning,” the fund-raising auction for Turtle Bay. Eats and drinks and noise in that big gymnasium at Big League Dreams. Felt like we were at the prom, except the clothes were more comfortable.

I was one of the items auctioned off, sort of. Dinner with the semi-obscure author, who will also use the lucky winner’s name for a character in his next mystery novel. Thanks to my friends for bidding this item up. I look forward to fulfilling this contract, particularly the part about dinner.

When bidding first opened, there was a moment of silence that was extremely uncomfortable. I had just been up in the spotlight and people were still doing that “Did you see the size of that gomer?” whispering-among-themselves thing that I often get. Then somebody finally bid something and a few seconds later, I was breathing and conscious again.

  • Road Reminder: Probably best to just avoid Highway 44 around the river for the next couple of weeks, if you can. Construction on the Dana-to-Downtown project is heavy, and there are nightly lane closures and detours.
  • Preferred Route: If you haven’t seen the new, improved South Bonnyview yet, trundle over and check it out. Sail through those smooth, sleek curves between I-5 and Highway 273. Still lots of lights, but a lot fewer traffic jams.
