Because of a family emergency, our own Doni Greenberg has been forced to opt out of Saturday’s speech to Writers Forum. I’ve offered to take her place, which means I get to go write a speech. Right now!
It’ll probably be less informative and interesting than what Doni had planned, but it should be entertaining, if you’re the sort of sick person who’s entertained by watching an underprepared speaker squirm for 20 minutes.Â
The event starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Redding Library Community Room, and it’s free and open to the public. Hope to see you there! I’ll be the one with the Pepto-Bismol.
We now return to your regularly scheduled Corner Booth:
Writers Forum also is selling tickets for a fundraiser at Riverfront Playhouse. The April 15 event is a special performance of Agatha Christie’s “…And Then There Were None.” Tickets are just $20 each. You can buy yours at the WF meeting or by calling these Writers Forum members: Larry at 227-6669, George at 242-1107, or Bonnie at 224-9912.
- Art Sale: Another event this weekend is a sale of original prints all day Saturday at Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The sale, which runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum’s east end, will feature both contemporary and antique prints from Davidson Galleries in Seattle. A portion of the proceeds will benefit educational programs at Turtle Bay.
- Library News: The cafe at the Redding Library will close at the end of March. The company that runs the library says the cafe has been losing money all along and can’t continue. The city plans to put vending machines there instead.
- The grand new sculpture soon to be erected outside the library’s entrance will be dedicated at 3:30 p.m. March 20. Sculptor William E. Mueller will give a talk at 7 p.m. that night in the Community Room.
- On March 28, the library is hosting “An Evening with Author Franz Wisner,” starting at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. Wisner is the author of the best-selling book “Honeymoon With My Brother” and the forthcoming “How the World Makes Love.”
- If I Only Had a Maid: I peered in my teen-aged son’s bedroom and there were so many ragged, dirty clothes sprawled across the floor, it looked like a scarecrow had blown up. I quickly closed the door.
