I thought on a soggy, doggy Sunday we might spend some time with some old friends, The Beatles. Come on, I know you’ve all fired up “Rain” on the ol’ iPod when the weather turns clammy, haven’t you?
The song first appeared in the U.S. (U.K. too, for that matter) as the B-side to 1966’s “Paperback Writer.” Hardly your typical B-side, rock historians agree John’s little ditty about people “moaning about the weather,” ranks among their best work. Recorded during the “Revolver” sessions it was the first pop song to utilize backward snippets of tape. It was also engineered using new technology that allowed the record to play much louder than was previously possible.
The performance itself is superb. Paul’s bass carries the song along with some of Ringo’s best recorded drumming. Of course, John’s vocal is brilliant. It’s still one of my favorite Beatles’ tunes. Enjoy!

I’d like to thank all the courageous, intrepid souls who braved “the rain” and stopped by for a cartoon last night at Infinite Design. I’d also like to thank Jeanette and Ann for their hospitality. They have a wonderful store and are great hostesses to boot. I had a blast, hope you did too. Heck, we even made a tidy sum for the Animal Sanctuary thanks to your generosity.
