Corner Booth: Stargazing

Cinemark movie theaters have stopped advertising in the local paper.

The newspaper ran a little item on Tuesday saying that Cinemark had decided to halt advertising for its two Redding locations. “Like all paid ads, it is the decision of the advertiser whether or not to publish,” the item said. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Since the ads were the only place in the paper where movie titles and times were listed, it is pretty damned inconvenient that they’re gone. Fortunately, you can find all the movie info you need here at aNewsCafe.com. Just click on “Movies” on the navigation bar above.

  • Maybe you enjoy looking at a different kind of stars. Schreder Planetarium’s a good way to do it, and now its calendar is more accessible. Planetarium info is at the Shasta County Office of Education’s new, improved website. Click here to go directly to the planetarium calendar. You can even buy tickets online.
  • What I’m reading: “A Most Wanted Man” by John LeCarre. Before that, I gobbled up a slim, strange novel by Paul Auster called “Travels in the Scriptorium.”
  • DVDs We’ve Seen: “Get Smart” with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway was pretty funny. Not a perfect update of the TV classic, but as Don Adams would say: “They only missed by this much.”
