Corner Booth: Strike Up the Music

Music groups are tuning up for the new year at Shasta College, and they’re recruiting new members. The Women’s Ensemble and the Community Chorale (men and women) both start rehearsals next week. Chorale will rehearse on Monday evenings and the Women’s Ensemble will rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call Dr. Liz Waterbury at 242-2367 for info. The Shasta College Community Concert Band invites interested musicians to an introductory meeting on Jan. 15. Call Dr. Larry Grandy at 242-2362 for more.

  • DVD I Watched on the Treadmill: “Alphaville,” the 1965 sci-fi film by Jean-Luc Godard that was the “Blade Runner” of its day.  Starring frog-like Eddie Constantine and the beautiful Anna Karina and her false eyelashes. The menacing computer that’s taken over a whole planet looks a lot like the inside of a toaster.

  • Is it just me, or has KRCR-TV’s Jennifer Scarborough been pregnant for about 15 months now? Bless her heart.
