Nature lovers, photographers and artists alike, get ready. This month’s Art Hop at Enjoy Magazine is sure to blow you away with the majestic images of Wyatt Olson Photography. Whether it’s the romantic “Wedding Rock” or the thought-provoking “Joshua Tree Sunset,” Olson’s photographs will inspire. He is surely at the top of his game, and he’s only 17.
A biochemistry major at the University of Portland, this Redding native was always more of a science enthusiast than an artist. In fact, he claims to not be artistic.
“I was always into science and nature, and I liked photography, I just never considered myself an artist,” Olson says. His high school science teacher was also a professional nature photographer and soon became Olson’s mentor. The passion for photography soon caught on, earning Olson the chance to spend time at conferences, such as the North American Nature Society Conference, and learn how to develop his style. He also began to shoot portraits as a way to raise money for a trip to Costa Rica. He continues to shoot portraits and weddings as well as abstracts and natures.
Though Olson is a bit farther north these days, he says he continues to hone his skills with the beautiful landscape of Oregon. He may be taking some time to adjust to college life, but Olson says he’ll be back in Northern California in December to shoot.
So be sure to check him out at the 2nd Saturday Art Hop, Oct. 11. He will be exhibiting 15 pictures (mostly natures) at the offices of Enjoy Magazine, 1905 Park Marina Drive, from 6-9 p.m.
