The movie based on my novel “Lonely Street” releases on DVD on Aug. 11, and the company releasing it, Echo Bridge Home Entertainment, has details at its website. Click here.
“Lonely Street” is a comedy featuring private eye Bubba Mabry (Jay Mohr), who is hired by a man who may be the living Elvis (brilliantly played by Robert Patrick). Also stars Joe Mantegna, Lindsay Price, Nikki Cox and Katt Williams.
Bumbling Bubba is featured in seven of my books, including 2006’s “Monkey Man,” and in a novella in the collection “The Last Noel.” No, he’s not just like me. He is not.
- Speaking of stars: David Lindley, the incredible multi-instrumentalist best known as sideman for Jackson Browne and as leader of the band El Rayo-X, will play a concert in Mount Shasta on July 5. The concert will be in the Mount Shasta Community Building at 629 Alder St. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the concert. Kids 16 and under get in free when accompanied by a paid adult. Tickets are on sale at the Mount Shasta Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Berryvale Grocery and at Bog Bean in Redding.
- Again, speaking of stars: Someone please tell Brett Favre to go sit quietly until the urge to come out of retirement passes. Favre did okay in his comeback season with the Jets, then he retired again. Now, after surgery on his throwing arm, the quarterback is talking to the Minnesota Vikings about un-retiring again. He’s already had a Hall of Fame career. Why sully it with all these lame comebacks?
- We’ve mentioned these shows before, but here’s a reminder: Shasta College Summer Dance Festival features two free performances at 7:30 p.m. on July 1 and 2. The performances will be at the college’s outdoor amphitheatre.
