March Fourth Marching Band brings a 17 member, big-band experience to the Cascade Theatre this Sunday. Imagine Duke Ellington meets Sgt. Pepper.
Redding is the final show of this year’s birthday tour. What began as a Fat Tuesday party in Portland on March 4th, 2003 appeals to audiences of all ages and musical tastes.
The band grew in unexpected ways over the past 12 years – winning the “Best in Show” award at the Altonale Festival after competing with fifty other performance troupes from around the world.Was Ist Das? is a popular video that tells this story of the 2011 International Marching Band competition in Germany. More recently, MarchFourth was chosen as the US “Cultural Export” and sent on a tour of China. And their song – Gospel – was chosen for the Monsters University soundtrack.
Over the years, March Fourth band members have evolved a new way to inspire younger generations. The Joy Now! Arts Project is a non-profit organization to build confidence and enthusiasm in young people ages 5-18 with programs in music, acrobatics and performing arts.
There is a strong local connection to this extraordinary musical experience – Taylor Aglipay a talented local musician raised in Trinity County toured with the band since the beginning in 2003 and wrote some of the popular MarchFourth original songs. Taylor has recently stopped touring with the band and returned to live with his wife Danyel in the North State. They now play in popular local bands including Buckhorn Mt. Stompers. Their new band Four Pounds of Lightning will open the show this Sunday.

This show supports local programs to build better bikeways and walkable cities as a benefit for Shasta Living Streets. Proceeds support Shasta Living Streets programs to share a vision for livable communities and information about safety, provide services like valet bicycle parking, and produce events like Streets Alive! – Family Bicycling Day, coming up this year on Sunday, May 3rd.
