People concerned about proposed electrical transmission lines through Northern California are meeting Thursday night in Cottonwood to share information about the project.
Shasta County Supervisor Les Baugh and others will speak at the meeting, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at North Cottonwood School, 19920 Gas Point Rd.
The Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC) has extended the public comment period on the proposed transmission lines until May 31. TANC has proposed building 600 miles of new transmission lines at a cost of $1.5 billion. The lines would carry electricity from renewable energy plants in Lassen County to Round Mountain, then south down the valley to Sacramento and environs.
The Sacramento Bee has an interesting article (with map) about the project here.
- Congrats to Shasta College student Adriel Taslim, who just received a whopping $30,000-a-year full scholarship to the McDuffie Center at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Taslim is one of only four violinists nationwide to be accepted into the prestigious center for next year. Taslim will perform two concerts with the North State Symphony this Sunday — at 2 p.m. at the Cascade Theatre in Redding and 7:30 p.m. at the State Theatre in Red Bluff.
- Tickets are on sale for a black-tie event this Saturday that will benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The party, which begins at 6 p.m., will include live music, hors d’oeurves, champagne, a fashion show and live and silent auctions. The event will be at EveryDay Fitness at 2345 Athens Ave., and tickets ($35 each) can be purchased at EveryDay Fitness or online. Click here for details.
- What I’m Reading: “The Long Fall,” first in a new private eye series by Walter Mosley. I love the “new arrivals” shelves at the Redding Library!
