The guys at HawkMan Studios, who bring great art events to Redding, present a reception for artist Deannie Meyer, complete with live music and wine tasting, at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Vintage Wine Bar & Restaurant downtown.
Meyer’s mixed media art exhibit, “Copper Kings,” is inspired by the landscape and history of Butte, Montana.
Proceeds from the optional $5 wine tasting go to our favorite animal sanctuary, Bella Vista Farms.
- Somebody at the Internal Revenue Service has a sense of humor. A Facebook friend says he called the IRS and was put on hold. The hold music was “The Nutcracker.”
- How ’bout them Celtics? Another nail-biting finish as Glen “Big Baby” Davis launches a 21-foot jumper at the buzzer to beat Orlando 95-94 on Sunday night. Boston keeps finding ways to win, even with two of its top players out with injuries. I don’t know how much more my poor heart can take.
- Movies We Watched on DVD: “In the Electric Mist,” starring Tommy Lee Jones. This adaptation of a James Lee Burke novel went straight to DVD after a lengthy dispute between the producers and director Bernard Tavernier. Small-town cop Dave Robicheaux uncovers ghosts and murder in the Louisiana swamps. Good movie.
- What I’m Reading: “Grand Theft” by Timothy Watts. A quirky crime novel that reminds me of the work of Elmore Leonard and George Higgins. Here’s the weird part: This novel features a car thief who finds a body in his trunk. I wrote a book called “Boost,” in which a car thief finds a body in his trunk. Both books came out in 2003. They’re different in every other way, but still. Something in the air . . .
