Shasta Public Libraries recognized hard-working volunteers at Wednesday’s appreciation luncheon at the Sons of Italy Hall, and some of the contributions were incredible.
Take, for example, the Volunteer of the Year for the Redding Library, Miriam Weissberg. She processed a mountain of data from the fall 2008 Customer Satisfaction Survey, creating an organizational system that she taught to other volunteers. Then she compiled all the results. Wow.
Volunteer of the Year at the Anderson Library was Wylodean Blohm, who has one of the greatest names ever (it’s pronounced Willow-dean). She works weekly with story times for children, often arriving early and helping with the shelving of children’s books. She also works at the monthly book sales and the Summer Reading Program.
Maureen Williams was Volunteer of the Year at the Burney Library. She covers and mends books, and serves as secretary of the Friends of the Intermountain Libraries.
Eleven of the library system’s 322 volunteers were recognized with “Above and Beyond Awards” for the amazing number of hours they donate to the libraries. All of those recognized worked more than 300 hours last year. Romane Hamblin, who calls the library “my second home,” put in 839 volunteer hours. Agnes Johnston racked up 773 hours and Karel Wollaston worked nearly 590 hours.
Congrats (and thank you) to all the volunteers!
