Corner Booth: Auction Season

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 11, when KIXE will host a party to preview the art and wine that will be up for auction later in the month. The preview, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 603 N. Market Street in Redding, coincides with 2nd Saturday ArtHop.

Appetizers by Riverview Golf & Country Club. Live music by guitarist Rick Hill. More than 60 artworks on exhibit.

And that’s just the preview party. The auction itself is April 24-25, and will be broadcast live both nights at 7 p.m.

  • Spring must be charity auction season. We’ve been to several lately, and have missed a bunch of others because you can’t be everywhere all the time. I always enjoy these auctions, sipping wine and running into familiar faces (not literally) (usually) and catching up with folks. I’m careful about bidding on stuff, because I am a tightwad, and I have to keep an eye on Kelly.
  • One time, she won at auction a long weekend on a houseboat with all the trimmings. I was horrified. A weekend with the whole family? Together? On a boat? Houseboats tend to be outdoors, which is not my favorite place. I much prefer a sofa. But we were committed by our bid. So we threw ourselves out onto Lake Shasta and had one of our best vacation weekends ever, puttering around the water and watching the teens leap off the roof and not catching any icky fish. Mostly just sitting around and eating, which is what I like to do, plus scenery.
  • I’m glad to hear that lake levels are better after the recent strange rainstorms that ripped through the area. Still a ways to go to get rid of the lake’s bathtub ring, but it might be a good time to reserve a houseboat.
