Corner Booth: Go Steelers (and Kelly and Doni)

In a private e-mail, cartoonist Phil Fountain communicates the following: “Cardinals and the points, dude.”

I believe this is a jab by Mr. Fountain at my decades-long dedication to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will next Sunday win yet another Super Bowl. (The Steelers, not Mr. Fountain.)

Because we’re all about transparency here at A News Cafe, I’d like to be perfectly clear when I say that Mr. Fountain is a pathetic sad sack who knows so little about football that we have to keep explaining to him that it’s the ball with the pointy ends. Thank you.

Promises to be another busy week at A News Cafe. Not only are we gearing up for the Super Bowl and the related round-the-clock snack preparation, but Doni’s doing another food/film presentation Wednesday night and Kelly’s speaking to Writer’s Forum on Saturday. On Sunday, I’m busy with football all day and unavailable for comment. Did I mention there’s a big game?

This week’s food movie is the very funny “Waitress,” which has a standout performance by none other than Andy Griffith. Afterward, there will be PIE! Movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cascade Theatre. (BTW, if you ever want me to attend an event, any event, the magic word is PIE.)

Kelly speaks on the changing media landscape in “Go Publish Yourself!” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the community room at the Redding Library. Y’all come. Be sure to come up and introduce yourself. I’ll be the one in the Steelers helmet.
