Sketch(es) O’ The Day for Sunday

This is a rough sketch for a gag I sold to a Parking magazine. What? You didn’t know there was a magazine devoted to the Parking Industry? Well, the truth is there are two magazines devoted to the Parking Industry. When one of the ‘zines ran cartoons, their competitor decided they had better run cartoons as well, which is where I came in. They bought a year’s worth even after seeing this sketch. Hey, it’s pretty funny stuff if you’ve been writing about parking lots all day.

Other news to note today is that the folks over at It’s Just This Little Chromium Switch Here (an excellent Firesign Theatre webzine) have sunk to a new low. They’ve picked up the homage/quasi-review I did for A News Café back in October (on the release of Box Of Danger: The Casebook of Nick Danger) and have posted it on their site. If you haven’t seen Chromium Switch (heathens!) take a moment to check it out. Fans of the brilliant comedy troupe will quickly become lost in The Archives where you can wander for days and hob-knob with all of your Dear Friends like Nick Danger, Ralph Spoilsport, George Leroy Tirebiter, Porgie and Mudhead, Pico and Alvarado, Bozos and Bozettes and others too humorous to mention* from the 40+ years of brilliant hilarity.

This little sketch was done while I was trying to come up with a cartoon for Chromium Switch based on the I Think We’re All Bozos On This Bus audio play.

*Thanks to Groucho for that line.

Phil Fountain

Phil Fountain is a pseudonym for ANC’s prodigal cartoonist, Philbert Phountain, who has recently returned from a working hiatus where he served as the lead fact-checker for George Santos. He lives in Shasta County with his long-suffering wife, Christine, as well as a variety of layabouts and urchins who claim to be his progeny … including three grandchildren. He busies himself with his crayons and obsessing over the fate of his favorite baseball team while a small dog sleeps under his desk. He’s actually not such a bad guy as evidenced by the fact the dog rarely bites him anymore. Look for his crudely rendered drawings in future posts on A News Café.
